It is no news that a northern student from Federal University, Dutse, Usman Barambu emerged as the National President of National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) at the NANS Annual Convention held in Abuja on 3rd September, 2022.
A lot of controversies have been moving round the air as touching the emergence of Usman Barambu as the new NANS president. On this controversy, the National President, Yoruba Student Assembly, Comrade Jesuponmile Taiwo (Com. Rest) wrote:
"Seriously, NANS needs reformation, until this Union is reformed we cannot experience a good leadership."
"How can an aspirant lodge 80% of the delegates and fed them. This is no more an activism but pocketivism."
We need to understand that, an aspirant that spends so much before emerging will do everything to recover it all."
"Nigerian Students, be wise. You will stay more months at home over ASUU Strike, because politicians now sponsor student unionism, and do not expect a political sponsored winner to stand against his sponsors."
